Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal ousted Inter Milan, Juventus and AS Roma respectively in the round of 16 days ago.

Capello put the British sides' superiority down to their physical presence, and the rapid pace of the Premier League matches.

"They (English teams) are used to a more physical game," the Italian manger told Rai television. "Our teams in this respect are lacking compared to the English."

What's more, Capello believes the Serie A matches lack fluency, which makes the Italian outfits incapable of vying on the European stage.

"There is another problem, there are so many interruptions in the Italian league and very often tricks like throwing yourself to the floor … get rewarded," the former Real Madrid boss elaborated.

"The referees in this sense should let the game flow more. This is another problem compared to British football where the rhythm is quicker and more fluid."
